Happy November All! Halloween sure comes and goes in a hurry, eh? November is here! I'm so excited to be working with Wood Creations of Idaho Falls again to giveaway once of their popular Thanksgiving wood kits! They have so many great kits for this month...
Thought this one was so funny- ha ha :)
The great ladies at Wood Creations of Idaho Falls said that this kit below has been wildly popular already...
So neat, right? I love the curve and motion of the letters. This is the kit I got to play with for this post and that Wood Creations of Idaho is giving away to one of you readers!
I had an array of probably ten different fall themed papers laid out in front of me when I went to start working on my kit. And then it occurred to me that the message of these wooden words wasn't just a statement for Thanksgiving time. You can only buy this one this time of year, but I'd really like to keep it displayed on my end table all year round! So I chose a paper that was more neutral... and knew I had some fabric that matched it perfectly. So, I figured I'd give the addition of fabric as part of the wood kit a try...
I also opted not to cover my 'Bless' letters in paper, but just paint them this great Dark Burnt Umber color that I got at Wood Creations. These kits can be finished ANY way you like! The examples at the store are amazing, but you can always do whatever suits you- these kits are awesome!
With the letter pieces painted, I hand sanded with a square of sandpaper in the sections that I wouldn't be able to reach with my power sander. (Like the center of the L and E.)
My top block was mod podged with paper like normal. For the bottom that needed to be covered with fabric, I brushed the tops with mod podge and then lay a section of fabric over the top and pressed...
Once it had dried just a sec, I clipped around the edge. Then distressed just as though it were paper...
Getting the vinyl on the fabric was just like the paper, only slower- you'll use both hand to press the vinyl on and peel at the same time. It stuck wonderfully though- I was really pleased with how the fabric worked out actually!
With the sanding all done, I mod podged over my painted letters and added ribbons once they were dry- all done! The ribbons are one of my favorite parts of any of these kits- they add so much and it's fun to pick them out at the store :)
Isn't this kit so cute?! I love it! My Mom and sister have both snagged this one too :) And for the next week this giveaway will be open for you to enter to win one! Wood Creations of Idaho Falls can ship to anywhere and there's only a few ways to enter this month, so it'll be fast and simple. Good Luck!
